und yourself in a creative slump? Me too. One of the things that I do to try to help myself is watch a movie or an episode or two (or an entire season) of a show. Now that streaming has become so normal, it's a lot easier to sit down and watch something, especially with most of us stuck in home because of the pandemic. I thought I would put together a list of films and shows that do something unique that have inspired me in my creative process. This list is in no particular order and is spoiler free!

1. Soul
As of now, Soul is the latest film from Pixar. It radiates creativity from wide variety of character designs to clever ideas about the afterlife. Though there were a couple nitpicks I had with it's story, I still really enjoyed watching this film and consider it yet another great addition to the Pixar family.

2. The Umbrella Academy
The Umbrella Academy is a fun watch. Even with it's rather large main cast, each character is memorable, likeable, and work well off each other. I also loved the overall feel the series has. I'm only slightly embarrassed to say that I binged season 2 in a day, and I eagerly wait for its return.

3. The Peanut Butter Falcon
In my opinion, The Peanut Butter Falcon is an underrated film. While it's not groundbreaking by any means, it tells a small, heartwarming story. Zak Gottsagen and Shia LeBeouf's performances as the leads, stole the show for me because of their chemistry, and their ability to act so authentically, which added even more to the characters the two were portraying.

4. Avatar: The Last Airbender
I remember watching Avatar: The Last Airbender on Nickelodeon when I was young and enjoyed its animation, jokes, and likeable characters. Not only does it hold up well over a decade after its initial release, but I also love it even more now for its creative setting, gorgeous visuals, developed characters, and well-written over-arching story. I genuinely consider it a must-watch for all ages.

5. Lady Bird
Lady Bird is a coming-of-age film that does an excellent job in mixing heart, emotion, humor, and charm, resulting in a film with a lot of character and originality. I appreciate films that are able to juggle all of these different attributes so well, as it can be hard accomplish.

6. WandaVision
WandaVision is a fairly new series, as only a few episodes have been released on Disney+. The first three episodes alone are oozing with creativity; especially in it's setting and visuals. It's interesting to see Marvel take such a different step in terms of content. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

7. The Good Place
What I love about The Good Place is that the creators took every single risk they could with the premise. The end result is one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. The writing is fantastic, and the show is full of twists, turns, and characters that are a lot of fun to watch.

8. Isle of Dogs
I always considered stop-motion an under-appreciated form of filmmaking. The stop-motion in Isle of Dogs is amazing, and the look and feel of the movie is very unique. I also enjoyed how each and every character stands out in terms of personality and design.

9. BoJack Horseman
It took me a bit to get into BoJack Horseman at first, but it just got better and better with each season. It's inspiring to see how even though it takes place in such a strange world with characters getting themselves into crazy situations, it is surprisingly deep and relatable.

10. Sunset Boulevard
Personally, I have never been too interested in watching black and white movies as they always just looked outdated to me. However, watching Sunset Boulevard for the first time a few months back has made me realize that I needed to start broadening my horizons and give more historic pieces in the film industry, like this movie, a chance. It does an excellent job in fleshing out its characters and telling a realistic story.
I highly recommend giving any of these a watch for creative inspiration. Or, spend some time finding a film to inspire you.
