Finding it hard to find inspiration nowadays? Here are 5 quick and easy tips that can help:
1. Doodle
Since I started the 'Zoom' year of school, I've been finding myself a lot more stressed during classes. Not only is it disheartening that my senior year of college has been pretty much been destroyed by the pandemic, but this new form of learning is still so new to me and hard to focus.
During one lecture, I was zoning out and trying my absolute hardest not to fall asleep. As I was mindlessly taking notes, I accidently drew a blob instead of an O. I'm not sure why, but for some reason I decided to add a cat face to the shape. I then drew another random shape and gave my cat a friend. I kept going until I had a notebook page almost filled with blob shaped cats.
Did I get much out of the lesson? No. But, ever since that day, I've been doodling random things and it has helped a lot with stress, as well as given me some ideas for my projects (including the design of this site).
2. Watch Something / Read a Book
As I discussed in my first blog post, watching a movie, video, or TV show is a great way to get motivation to create. If you're more of a book person, you can also read or listen to an audiobook as well.
3. Social Media
Now more than ever, social media has given people all over the world an outlet to express themselves and show the world. So many offer great advice involving creativity. From drawing basics to countless recipes, there's something for anyone of ay skill level. You can search hashtags or key words to find what you are looking for. Pinterest, TikTok, and Instagram are great places to start.
4. Go Somewhere / Try Something New
The pandemic has made it extremely difficult for many to get outside. If you do get the chance to go somewhere, definitely make the most of it. Spending time in a different environment can give you ideas that you never even thought of. You can also try something new; like a new recipe or doing small home renovations.
5. Write EVERYTHING down!
I cannot stress enough how important writing every idea down no matter how stupid it may seem. I've had so many thoughts that I could potentially use in one of my projects or stories that I cannot remember at all. After a while, I decided enough was enough and have relied on the notes app on my phone to be the place where I jot down everything that passes through my head. Most of the time, it's stupid nonsense. But, in the end, it's worth remembering just one tiny, amazing idea!
